Introduction
The trip to Spiti Valley has been my best decision ever which I undertook in 2023. The unreal beauty of the valleys has made me love it so much that I wouldn’t mind visiting it again and again round the year. The main reason why Spiti gains too much of popularity is because it’s just a Jack of all Trades and you get to experience everything. Lovely landscapes, snowfall, very humble people, remote destinations, hiking, mountain passes, adventurous roads and many more.
Here’s a list of a few unique experiences which you can try out during your next trip to Spiti Valley.
Must Experience Things
Post a Letter to your home from the Highest Post Office of the World.
Gone are the days where we used to write letters to each other and keep waiting to read what’s coming from the other side with a lot of curiosity. Due to improved technology, communication has become so simple. But once you’re at the Highest Post Office of the World, don’t forget to take a pen, paper and write something to your loved ones from such a special place, which you can keep at your home as a lifetime memory.
Experience the fresh air at Chitkul
This is another amazing experience which I have personally felt and would recommend everyone to do as well. A study says that Chitkul has the cleanest air quality in India and I literally could sense a feeling of freshness during my stay there. This is something which you shouldn’t miss out on.
Stargazing at Chandratal Lake
This is another spectacular place in India. The view of the surrounding mountains along with the lovely lake is just a treat to watch. There are many camps available nowadays near the lake and they’re specially there so that one can watch the beautiful sky in the night and trust me this is a lifetime experience.
Stay at a Local Monastery with Monks
There are many monasteries in the valley and every village has atleast 1 monastery. Many of them allow tourists to stay and also join them during prayer time. This is another lifetime experience spending time with monks and learning more about their lives and culture.
Stay at Mud Houses in Nako, Tabo
Nako and Tabo are the 2 beautiful villages that lie on the way between Reckong Peo to Kaza and most of the houses there are built from mud. There are many localities who are operating stays at such hotels and one can also stay there for a unique experience making your trip memorable.
Adventurous Drive to Manali
The Kaza-Manali route has been one of the deadliest routes I’ve ever traveled in India. The 80 km stretch after Losar has literally no human occupancy at all, no home, no people, nothing. The road as of now is in a very very bad condition and it’s open only for 4 months due to heavy snowfall. The diversion to Chandratal and Kunzum Pass comes along the way. There are many water crossings, challenging roads and lovely landscapes. Read my experience here
Drive on the Highest Bridge of Asia
The Chicham Bridge is the highest bridge of Asia which is located around 20 kms away from Kaza. This bridge connects Chicham Village with the rest of the world. On the way you can explore Kee Monastery and Kibber village as well.
Pin Parvati Trek
This is one of the most amazing trek routes of India, where one starts the trek after Kasol near Manali, crosses the entire mountain range to enter Spiti Valley near Pin Village. One crosses Pin Parvati Pass and its an alternate route to reach Spiti Valley from Kullu Side. The trek is very long and extremely challenging but a real lifetime experience.
Conclusion
These are a few unique experiences which are hard to find in other tourist destinations of India. The trip to Spiti becomes very special due to such amazing experiences and hence this should be in your bucket list without fail.
